Popular in Japan during the Edo period (1615–1868), woodblock prints depicted subjects ranging from the seductive scenes of the urban pleasure districts and theaters, to the romantic vistas and landscapes favored at the time. Included here are notecards featuring five prints from Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai, two of the most prominent woodblock print designers of the period. Though these print masters garnered fame for their work, each print required the collaboration of four experts: the designer as well as the engraver, the printer, and the publisher.
