Up until 1897, only the 75th wedding anniversary of a couple was known as their diamond wedding. Then, Queen Victoria celebrated her 60th year on the British throne - a milestone that's referred to as the Diamond Jubilee of a ruler. Ever since then, both the 75th and the 60th wedding anniversary of a couple are believed to be symbolized by diamonds.
And let's be honest here for a second: that's not a bad thing, right?
You can't have too many diamonds in your life, that's for sure. :)
As a symbol, diamonds represent strength and durability. Even the name of the gemstone reflects that: it's derived from the Greek adamas, which literally means "unbreakable."
